Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has criticized President Bola Tinubu for ruling out a probe into military expenditures under the administration of his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Sani said Tinubu’s stance contradicts his investigation into the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) under former governor Godwin Emefiele.
“When you find yourself in this position, especially with a nation facing these critical issues like ours, you still have to go backward and see how public funds that were looted have been recovered,” Sani stated.
The ex-lawmaker argued that by choosing not to investigate allegations of mismanagement and corruption in military spending, Tinubu is effectively “rewarding larceny.”
“It’s a bit contradictory; you can move backward in CBN but you can’t move backward in security,” he noted.
Sani urged the president to recover public funds if presented with evidence of corruption. “If you say that whatever happened in the past has gone, it is more like rewarding larceny,” he added.
The former senator also highlighted the pains Nigerians are enduring due to Tinubu’s economic reforms. “Economic reforms have never been popular with the citizens,” he acknowledged, while emphasizing the need for Tinubu to be accountable for his policies and the actions of his ministers.
Tinubu’s comments during his Monday media chat have sparked widespread debate, with critics questioning his selective approach to investigating past administrations.
