Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, has predicted an easy victory for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that the emerging opposition coalition poses no serious threat to his re-election.

Wike spoke during a media chat monitored in Port Harcourt yesterday, saying the current political landscape favoured Tinubu and would allow the president to return to the Presidential Villa without significant electoral pressure.

“This will be an election where a president will be walking to the Villa with no pressure,” Wike said.

The former Rivers State governor also defended the Rainbow Coalition in the state, saying its formation was not driven by the personal ambition of any politician but by a collective decision to support Tinubu’s administration.

“Rainbow Coalition is not about one person. What is important is that we are supporting Mr President. No one party takes everything,” he said.

Wike dismissed the relevance of opposition parties, arguing that parties outside government primarily exist to maintain their political relevance.

“Opposition parties exist because they need to exist. Ideally, there are no opposition parties,” he said.

He also questioned the political strength of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who have been linked to opposition realignment ahead of 2027.

Wike challenged their electoral influence by pointing to the performance of their new parties in the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

“Atiku is running under ADC, and Obi under NDC. What was their performance in Osun?” Wike asked.

The FCT minister said the Rainbow Coalition would unveil its plans at the appropriate time and assured that decisions reached by the group would be implemented.

Wike also criticised the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) over its recent annual general conference in Port Harcourt, describing the event as a flop.

He accused the NBA leadership of neglecting important professional issues in favour of political activities.
