Chief Bode George has strongly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent media chat, accusing the president of displaying a lack of empathy toward the struggles faced by Nigerians.
Speaking in an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, George reacted to Tinubu’s remarks defending the removal of fuel subsidies without regret, urging the president to acknowledge the widespread anger, hunger, and poverty in the country.
“There is abject poverty in the land. There is hunger in the land. There is anger in the land,” George said, referring to recent stampedes during food distribution that led to fatalities.
He condemned the tone of the president’s comments, stating, “I am surprised that there is no iota of calmness, soberness, or in-depth humanity in the discussion. Leadership is not about pumping and bashing people. It is not a military administration.”
George further called on Tinubu to listen to the voices of Nigerians and show greater sensitivity to their hardships. “Why should we bear it? It is completely outrageous. It is not a good way to start a year. Listen to the people,” he advised.
The president’s media chat, his first since taking office, has sparked mixed reactions, with critics pointing to a disconnect between policy decisions and the realities faced by ordinary Nigerians.
