Sen. Ndume: Nigerian Military Lacks Adequate Equipment to Combat Boko Haram

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has expressed concerns over the Nigerian military’s insufficient equipment in the ongoing fight against Boko Haram. Speaking from his Maiduguri residence after visiting families of victims of recent terrorist attacks in Ngoshe, Kirawa, Ashigashiya, and other communities in Gwoza Local Government Area, Ndume highlighted the need for better resources to combat the insurgents effectively.

Ndume, who travelled with a military convoy to offer condolences, explained that during their visit, they encountered reports of an ambush involving Cameroonian soldiers and civilians on the Pulka-Kirawa road. The attack claimed the lives of a Cameroonian bureau de change operator and an unidentified woman, while others were injured.

Despite the military’s efforts, Ndume emphasized the urgent need for enhanced equipment and motivation to support the troops, particularly as Boko Haram continues targeting farmers during the harvest season. He called on the federal government to provide better support, stating that without it, military efforts would remain hindered.

The senator reaffirmed his commitment to helping improve security in Gwoza, mentioning his discussions with Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa, who promised the deployment of additional troops to safeguard local farmers from further attacks.
