The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land allocations of some governors and other high-ranking political figures, including Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri, Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, and PDP National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu. A total of 568 individuals, whose land allocations are in Maitama II, Cadastral Zone A10, Abuja, had their Right of Occupancy (R-of-O) withdrawn due to failure to settle Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) bills.
According to Lere Olayinka, the media aide to the Minister, the revocation followed the expiration of an extended two-week grace period, which was granted to allow the affected allottees to settle their outstanding payments. Other prominent Nigerians impacted by the decision include former Enugu Governor Chimaroke Nnamani, Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, NiDCOM Chairman Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, and federal lawmaker Hon. Oluwole Oke.
In October 2024, 3,273 land allottees were given two weeks to pay their bills or risk losing their R-of-O titles. By the deadline, 2,511 allottees had complied, leaving 762 who were granted an additional two-week grace period. However, as of January 15, only 194 of the remaining 568 allottees had made their payments.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) issued a public notice informing all affected parties of the withdrawal, citing Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978. The notice emphasized that those who completed their payments by January 15, 2025, were not impacted by the revocation.
The move is seen as part of efforts to enforce accountability in land allocations and ensure compliance with the terms of land grants.
