Tinubu Urges Fubara to Accept Supreme Court Verdict, Pursue Peace

President Bola Tinubu has urged Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to comply with the Supreme Court’s verdict on the state’s political crisis and pursue peace.

The court recently upheld the Martin Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly, dismissing Fubara’s appeal against the legitimacy of 27 lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Following the ruling, the pro-Wike lawmakers issued a 48-hour ultimatum for Fubara to submit the 2025 budget, while the state APC also threatened impeachment, escalating tensions.

Speaking at a meeting with PANDEF leaders on Tuesday, Tinubu expressed disappointment that the crisis persisted despite his intervention last year. He recalled that a written peace agreement had been reached but was later challenged by some leaders.

“This is a nation of rule of law. I should not be here as president of Nigeria if there is no rule of law. I have total confidence in our judiciary,” Tinubu stated.

He urged stakeholders to support Fubara in implementing the Supreme Court’s decision, revealing that he had privately and publicly advised the governor to prioritize peace.
