Suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has taken her case against Senate President Godswill Akpabio to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting at the United Nations in New York, seeking intervention from global democratic institutions.
Speaking at the Women in Parliament session, Akpoti-Uduaghan described her suspension from the Senate as illegal and expressed concerns that she might be detained upon her return to Nigeria for speaking out.
Her suspension came last Thursday after a dispute over seat arrangements escalated into allegations of sexual harassment and abuse of office against Akpabio—claims the Senate President has denied.
In response, Akpoti-Uduaghan filed a ₦100 billion defamation lawsuit against Akpabio, while the Senate referred her to its disciplinary committee. However, she secured a court injunction barring the committee from proceeding with disciplinary actions until a hearing scheduled for March 10, 2025.
Despite this, the Senate committee dismissed her petition on March 5, 2025, citing procedural violations. Unrelenting, Akpoti-Uduaghan re-submitted her petition the following day.
