President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has underscored the importance of enhanced cooperation among security agencies to combat crime more effectively across Nigeria.
Speaking at the opening of the 2025 Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Monday, Tinubu represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized that synergy among security forces is essential in addressing banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other criminal activities.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equipping and supporting the police in their critical role of maintaining national security and unity.
Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, noted that the conference provides an opportunity to assess and refine operational strategies. He announced that all police commands and formations have been directed to implement a comprehensive action plan aimed at reducing crime by 50% in 2025.
Also speaking at the event, Douglas Kirocho, Inspector General of Kenya’s National Police Service and President of the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL), called for inclusive policing and stronger collaboration among African nations to improve security and drive economic growth.
