Senator Ned Nwoko  Set to Defect to APC for Anioma State Creation

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, is reportedly planning to leave the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC). Sources indicate that the move is aimed at advancing the long-standing goal of creating Anioma State.

The Guardian gathered that Nwoko convened a consultative meeting with notable PDP members and other political stakeholders across his constituency to announce his intention. The meeting, which lasted several hours, was held at his residence in Idumuji-Kpoko, Aniocha North.

Victor Sorokwu, leader of Ugo-Anioma and a key convener of the meeting, confirmed the development. According to Sorokwu, Nwoko sought the stakeholders’ support to defect to the APC—a move that was unanimously endorsed by those in attendance.

While some speculate that Nwoko’s defection may be tied to his governorship ambition for 2027, Sorokwu clarified that the primary goal is to achieve the creation of Anioma State, a condition reportedly supported by the presidency.

If Nwoko’s defection is finalized, all three Delta State senators in the National Assembly will belong to the ruling APC, further weakening the PDP’s dominance in the state a stronghold since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.

This development follows the recent defection of Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, daughter of former governor James Ibori, who represents the Ethiope Federal Constituency, from the PDP to the APC.
