PDP Governors Urge NWC to Reschedule NEC Meeting to March 13

Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to reschedule its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to March 13, 2025.

The resolution was made in a communique issued after a meeting in Asaba, Delta State, attended by 12 PDP governors. The statement, signed by Bala Mohammed, Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, addressed key national and party concerns.

“The Forum reviewed the performance of member states and the state of the nation as of 2024, noting the immense socio-economic, security, and infrastructure challenges confronting the country. It commended PDP governors for implementing policies aimed at alleviating hardships and fostering sustainable development,” the communique read.

The governors also acknowledged ongoing efforts to resolve the crisis within the NWC regarding the National Secretary’s position and reaffirmed support for the Court of Appeal’s judgment. They urged the NWC to take steps to implement the ruling effectively.

After examining legal requirements for convening a valid NEC meeting, the governors advised the NWC to shift the meeting to March 13, 2025.

Earlier, the NWC, led by PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, had postponed the NEC meeting twice in the past three months, a move opposed by the Board of Trustees (BoT). The meeting was initially rescheduled for February 2025.

According to Section 31(4) of the PDP Constitution, the NEC must meet once every three months. The last meeting was held in April 2024.

The NEC, as PDP’s highest decision-making body, includes state governors, serving and former presidents, former vice-presidents, BoT executives, National Assembly leaders, state party chairmenNWC members, and former governors, among others.
