Defence Minister Warns Politicians Against Inciting Violence

The Minister of State for DefenceDr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, has cautioned politicians against making inflammatory statements that could incite violence against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

His warning follows remarks by former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who alleged that Nigerian politicians “steal, maim, and kill” to remain in power.

In a statement issued by the Director of Information, Ministry of Defence, Henshaw Ogubike, Matawalle condemned such utterances as reckless and dangerous, warning that security agencies would monitor individuals or groups attempting to incite unrest.

“Amaechi and others who believe they can manipulate young Nigerians into chaos should reconsider. This government will not stand by and allow anyone to disrupt the peace and stability of Nigeria,” he stated.

He further warned that anyone found inciting violence or threatening national security would face serious consequences. “Nigeria is a sovereign nation governed by laws, not a jungle where power is seized through brute force,” he added.

Matawalle reaffirmed President Tinubu’s commitment to peace, democracy, and national unity, dismissing Amaechi’s claims. He insisted that power is attained through democratic processes, not intimidation or violence.

The minister also expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure a decisive victory in the 2027 presidential election and urged Nigerians to disregard Amaechi’s remarks, calling him politically irrelevant and out of touch with national realities.
