Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has announced that 10 lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Delta State House of Assembly are preparing to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Omo-Agege, the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, made the statement on Saturday while welcoming Chief Itiako Ikpokpo (aka Malik), a two-term chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, into the APC during an event in Uro-Irri.
Addressing the crowd, Omo-Agege declared that the PDP’s grip on Delta State was “rapidly crumbling” and hinted at a major political shift.
“A major realignment in the power structure of the Delta State House of Assembly is looming as 10 lawmakers are set to leave PDP for APC,” he revealed.
With seven APC lawmakers already in the House, the defection of the 10 PDP members would boost APC’s numbers to 17, potentially allowing the opposition to take control of the House leadership.
Omo-Agege attributed APC’s growing strength in Delta State to the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu, claiming that the state’s federal allocations had risen to over N1 trillion in just a year and a half.
“The financial improvements under Tinubu’s administration show that APC is delivering good governance. More politicians are aligning with the ruling party because of these achievements,” he stated.
Omo-Agege also hailed Ikpokpo’s defection as a pivotal moment for the APC in Delta State. “I have persistently pressured Ikpokpo to join the APC, and today, he has finally made the move,” he said.
In his remarks, Ikpokpo vowed to strengthen APC’s structure in the state, emphasizing the importance of unity for defeating the PDP in the 2027 elections.
“We must welcome new entrants with open arms because unity is key in defeating PDP in 2027,” he concluded.
