Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has denied reports of his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC), reaffirming his commitment to the ruling party.
In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) page on Monday, Fayemi described the speculation as false, maintaining that his position as a foundation member of the APC remains unchanged.
“My attention has been drawn to a story circulating on several online platforms regarding my defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC),” he wrote.
“As I have had cause to state in the past, I am a card-carrying foundation member of the APC, and this position has not changed.
“While I have been at the vanguard of demand for greater internal democracy and inclusion in the ruling party, I believe it is still not late for our party to change course and move towards greater inclusion and internal democracy.”
Fayemi’s statement comes amid growing speculation that some APC chieftains may follow former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, who announced his defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) earlier on Monday.
Despite internal disagreements, Fayemi’s reaffirmation signals his continued presence in the APC as the party navigates ongoing political shifts.
