Jason Krasley, a former Allentown, Pennsylvania police officer dismissed from his role as an investigator at the U.S. Center for SafeSport, has been arrested on charges of rape and sex trafficking. The charges stem from alleged crimes committed between 2011 and 2015 during his tenure on the police force, according to a statement from the district attorney’s office.
Krasley, who left the police department in 2021, joined SafeSport but was terminated last year following accusations of stealing $5,500 during a drug raid. SafeSport, which investigates sexual abuse in Olympic and grassroots sports, is now facing scrutiny over its hiring practices.
Ju’Riese Colón, CEO of SafeSport, condemned the allegations, stating, “I am appalled that a former staff member has been accused of such heinous acts in his previous role as a police officer. Safeguarding athletes is our utmost priority, and we are taking immediate steps to address this matter.”
SafeSport has launched an independent audit of the cases Krasley handled, including at least one that was reassigned after his arrest for theft. Another claimant has requested their case be reopened and was informed that it is already under review.
In addition to rape and sex trafficking charges, Krasley faces counts of felony kidnapping, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, intimidation of a witness, and a misdemeanor charge of criminal coercion.
The case highlights the need for stricter vetting processes, particularly within organizations tasked with investigating sensitive misconduct cases.
