The Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport in Ado-Ekiti is set for full commercial operations, according to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN). The Minister made this announcement on Tuesday after inspecting the airport facilities alongside Governor Biodun Oyebanji and other top government officials.
Keyamo confirmed that the airport is 99.5% completed, with its runway meeting international standards. The apron, capable of accommodating multiple 737 small-body aircraft, ensures the facility is comparable to airports in developed nations.
“I landed here to show the world that it’s now safe for landing. Aviation 001 had to land here as a testament to my confidence in the facilities for public use. Commercial airlines will start coming in anytime from now,” Keyamo stated.
Governor Oyebanji expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, legal icon Afe Babalola, and the Minister for their unwavering support in bringing the airport project to completion. He highlighted the economic benefits the airport will bring, including job creation in agriculture, commerce, and tourism, as well as boosting property values in the region due to increased traffic flow.
“This is a dual-purpose airport, serving both agro-allied products and commercial passengers,” Oyebanji noted.
Keyamo, who landed at the airport on Monday, departed on Tuesday using the same facility, further underscoring its readiness for operations.
