Anambra Government Launches New Security Operations to Combat Insecurity

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State unveiled two special security operations, “Udo Ga-Achị” and “Agunechemba,” on Saturday, January 18. The launch, along with the signing of the Anambra Homeland Security Law, took place at the International Convention Centre in Awka.

During the ceremony, Governor Soludo emphasized that security, law, and order are critical to achieving growth and development in Anambra. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing the state’s rising insecurity.

To strengthen efforts, Soludo introduced a reward system for individuals providing information that leads to the arrest of kidnappers. He noted that criminals have turned to “lucrative criminality” under the guise of agitations and liberation struggles, which has exacerbated insecurity in the region.

“The dynamics of criminality in the South-East and Nigeria have become hydra-headed. Our response must be thoughtful, deliberate, and comprehensive, incorporating both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches,” he stated.

Soludo urged residents to join hands with his administration to eradicate insecurity in the state. He also cited a recent report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), revealing that N2.2 trillion was paid as ransom in 2024. According to him, unreported cases could push the figure beyond N10 trillion, underscoring the urgency of the issue.
