Peter Obi Urges Tinubu to Use Federal Hospitals, Tour States in 2025

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to conduct his next medical examination at a federal hospital to evaluate Nigeria’s public healthcare system.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Obi criticized Tinubu’s frequent overseas trips, stating, “Out of the approximately 580 days you have been in office, reports suggest you’ve spent over 30%, or around 180 days, on more than 30 publicly recorded overseas trips.”

Obi urged the President to dedicate at least 72 days in 2025 to visiting each of Nigeria’s 36 states to better understand the challenges citizens face. He proposed that Tinubu undergo his next medical check-up at one of the country’s federal healthcare facilities, such as the FMCs in Sokoto, Birnin Kebbi, Calabar, Umuahia, or Akure, to personally assess their state.

“It’s time to witness firsthand the condition of our healthcare facilities and take informed steps to upgrade and improve them,” Obi said.

The former governor also stressed the importance of visiting tertiary institutions to evaluate the effectiveness of funds allocated through TETFund. He recommended road trips along key routes like Calabar to Uyo and Benin to Warri, highlighting the need for immediate action on Nigeria’s deteriorating road networks.

Recalling his own experience, Obi shared how he facilitated a similar trip for former President Olusegun Obasanjo, which led to urgent road reconstruction approvals. He also cited former President Shehu Shagari’s visit to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as an example of impactful governance through direct engagement.

Obi further encouraged Tinubu to visit military formations and interact with security personnel in the field to boost morale and assess operational challenges.

“These visits will provide invaluable insights and demonstrate your commitment to addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges,” Obi concluded.
