The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, on Wednesday, officially welcomed Senator Ned Nwoko to the party following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, cited internal divisions and factionalism within the PDP at both state and national levels as reasons for his defection. His decision was formally communicated to the Senate in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary.
At the APC national secretariat in Abuja, Ganduje assured Nwoko of the party’s full support and reiterated APC’s commitment to winning Delta State in the 2027 elections.
“We are happy to receive you, and you are most welcome to our great and nationalistic party. We believe in national unity, integrity, and providing for Nigerians,” Ganduje said.
He highlighted the progress of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stating that its economic policies were yielding positive results. Ganduje also announced plans for a mega rally in Delta State to formally welcome Nwoko and other defectors.
In his remarks, Nwoko said he joined APC to work with stakeholders to secure the party’s victory in the next election.
“I was elected to make a difference in Delta, but I wasn’t given that opportunity. I believe in serving the people, but PDP Delta did not provide that platform,” Nwoko said.
He pledged to contribute to the party’s success, emphasizing his understanding of Delta’s political landscape. Addressing the crisis within Delta APC, he described himself as a peacemaker committed to fostering unity.
Nwoko was accompanied to the APC secretariat by Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and other party leaders.
