Medical Transport Plane Crashes Near Philadelphia Mall, Child and Five Others on Board

A medical transport plane carrying a child, her mother, and four crew members crashed in northeast Philadelphia on Friday evening, erupting into flames near Roosevelt Mall.

The Learjet 55 went down around 6:30 p.m., shortly after taking off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport, authorities said.

Officials have not yet confirmed the number of casualties. Speaking at a press conference, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker urged the public to pray for those involved.

“Right now, we’re just asking for prayers,” Parker said, adding that several homes and vehicles were impacted by the crash and advising residents to stay away from the scene.

In a statement, Shriner’s Hospital confirmed that the child had been receiving medical care at its Philadelphia facility and was being transported back to Mexico with her mother on a contracted air ambulance when the crash occurred.

The flight was operated by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, which confirmed that four crew members were also on board.

“At this time, we cannot confirm any survivors,” the company said in a statement. “No names are being released until families have been notified. Our immediate concern is for the patient’s family, our personnel, their families, and any victims on the ground.”

The aircraft was en route to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri, according to FlightRadar24 data.

A large fire ignited in the aftermath of the crash, prompting a significant emergency response. Authorities are continuing to assess the damage and investigate the cause of the incident.
