Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has suspended the Acting Head of Service and Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Salisu Mustapha, over allegations of salary deductions and non-payment of civil servants’ salaries.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a statement issued Thursday night by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
To ensure an impartial investigation, Mustapha has also been directed to step aside from his role as Permanent Secretary, Establishment, under the Office of the Head of Service.
Mustapha was appointed earlier this month as Acting Head of Service following the medical leave of the substantive Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, who is currently receiving treatment in India.
In a bid to maintain administrative stability, Governor Yusuf has appointed Malam Umar Muhammad Jalo, the Permanent Secretary of Research, Evaluation, and Policy Analysis (REPA), as the new Acting Head of Service pending the outcome of the ongoing probe.
This action aligns with the governor’s commitment to holding accountable anyone involved in financial malpractice related to salary payments.
A seven-member investigative committee, chaired by Hon. Abdulkadir Abdussalam, was inaugurated on Thursday and given a seven-day mandate to conclude its findings on the alleged salary irregularities.
