Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, has reiterated her sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, asserting that she has concrete evidence to back her claims.
Her lawyer, Victor Giwa (Esq.), made this known in response to a statement by Unoma Akpabio, the Senate President’s wife, who on Friday defended her husband’s integrity and hinted at legal action against the senator.
In a counter-statement on Saturday, Giwa urged Mrs. Akpabio to stay out of the dispute, emphasizing that the Senate President should personally address the allegations.
“You should leave the defense of these allegations to the Senate President to maintain your sanity and that of your family,” Giwa stated.
Describing his client as a committed advocate for women’s rights, Giwa said she had endured continuous harassment in the Senate and was now compelled to expose the ordeal.
“While she has tolerated all the harassment from the Senate President, she was constrained to reveal the unfortunate torture and victimization she has been experiencing in the Red Chambers under his hand,” he added.
Natasha, he insisted, believes Akpabio is capable of defending himself.
“Our client remains resolute in defending Nigerian women and, as a family woman, she will continue to uphold our common heritage and family values,” the statement concluded.
The senator had earlier sued Akpabio and his aide, Mfon Patrick, demanding N100.3 billion in damages for defamation, following a controversy over her seating arrangement in the Senate chambers.
She had also alleged in a television interview that Akpabio refused to consider her motion on the Ajaokuta Steel Complex because she rejected his sexual advances.
