The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Command, has announced plans to begin strict enforcement of compliance with passengers’ manifest and speed limit device installation for transporters and fleet operators starting March 1.
Speaking in Awka on Saturday, during a briefing on the command’s 2024 ‘Operation Zero’ programme, Anambra Sector Commander, Mrs. Joyce Alexander, expressed concern over the low level of compliance among commercial transporters, particularly fleet operators. She also condemned tampering with speed limit devices and other sharp practices aimed at bypassing safety regulations.
Alexander further criticized many inter-state commercial drivers and fleet operators for failing to ensure that passenger manifests include a blood group column, a legal requirement designed to aid emergency response in case of accidents.
“From March 1, FRSC will commence total enforcement in Anambra. We will conduct special intervention patrols to inspect vehicles. Any fleet operator or motorist found violating the Speed Limit Device regulation or failing to provide a properly filled passenger manifest will be arrested,” she warned.
She emphasized that the FRSC will no longer tolerate non-compliance, stressing that the enforcement aims to prevent road crashes and safeguard lives.
Alexander urged drivers to ensure passengers fill in their correct details before embarking on trips. She also praised the Anambra State Government for its ongoing road construction and rehabilitation projects, noting that improved road infrastructure would help reduce accidents.
Additionally, she commended the media for supporting FRSC’s efforts in public enlightenment and road safety education.
