Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai has declared that he does not pretend in politics and cannot be among politicians who become “Nollywood actors” once in government.
His remarks come amid an ongoing dispute with some members of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The controversy began when el-Rufai criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for deviating from its core values, stating that he no longer recognizes the party. His comments triggered reactions from the presidency, with Daniel Bwala, a presidential aide, questioning whether el-Rufai’s views would have been different had he been part of Tinubu’s cabinet.
Responding, el-Rufai insisted that his stance on the APC would remain unchanged regardless of his involvement in the government.
On Saturday, he doubled down in a post on X, taking another swipe at those he believes put on an act while in office.
A social media user, @irahabib, had praised el-Rufai’s straightforwardness, writing:
“The day I read El-Rufai’s book, Accidental Public Servant, I concluded that no politician would want @elrufai in their cabinet unless they genuinely intend to develop this country. He doesn’t know how to pretend.”
In response, el-Rufai wrote:
“Thanks for your kind words, @irahabib. Truly, I don’t know how to pretend. Being a Nollywood actor in governance is for some others, not some of us. Have a nice day.”
