Edo Governor Signs Bills on Magistrates’ Retirement Age from 60 to 65 Years

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has signed two significant bills into law, increasing the retirement age of magistrates from 60 to 65 years and expanding the membership of the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDOSOPADEC) from seven to ten members.

Speaking after the signing, Governor Okpebholo highlighted the importance of extending magistrates’ retirement age, emphasizing that it would enhance judicial efficiency by allowing experienced magistrates to contribute longer to the administration of justice in the state.

“The extension aligns with our vision of strengthening judicial integrity and improving justice delivery,” the governor stated.

The expansion of EDOSOPADEC’s membership, he noted, would promote better governance, representation, and operational efficiency within the commission, ensuring optimal management of the state’s oil resources and fostering economic growth.

Governor Okpebholo assured that the newly signed bills, which take immediate effect, would have a significant positive impact on governance and service delivery in Edo State. Relevant stakeholders have expressed optimism about the potential benefits of these legislative reforms.
