Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, accusing him of political opportunism and hypocrisy.
In a statement released on Thursday by Mukhtar Gidado, Governor Mohammed’s Special Adviser for Media and Publicity, Wike was described as a “transactional politician” whose loyalties shift based on personal ambitions. The remarks were in response to Wike’s criticism of Mohammed’s opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills.
Gidado dismissed Wike’s comments as “baseless,” accusing the former Rivers State governor of undermining his own party, the PDP, while aligning with the APC for political gain.
“While Wike accuses others of insincerity, he has seamlessly transitioned from being a self-proclaimed PDP stalwart to an ardent supporter of the APC government,” the statement read. “This chameleonic behavior raises serious questions about Wike’s credibility and moral compass.”
The statement also highlighted Wike’s political history, accusing him of betraying the PDP, the party credited with shaping his political career.
“It is disheartening that a man who owes so much to a party that stood by him in his political journey has chosen to be a willing tool in its denigration,” Gidado added.
Responding to Wike’s claim that he is not friends with Mohammed, the statement dismissed the remark as “irrelevant and puerile.” Gidado emphasized that governance should prioritize competence and vision over personal relationships.
“Should Wike ever have a moment of genuine self-reflection and wish to align himself with true leadership, Senator Bala Mohammed would welcome him with open arms. Until then, Wike’s friendship or lack thereof is inconsequential to the progress of Bauchi State and Nigeria’s democracy,” the statement concluded.
