Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing it as an attempt to silence women in leadership.
In a statement issued on Friday, March 7, to commemorate the 2025 International Women’s Day, Atiku emphasized the crucial role of women in society, calling them the “backbone” of homes, workplaces, and governance.
He criticized the Senate’s decision, stating that it undermines fairness, representation, and gender inclusivity.
“The recent suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is an unfortunate example of such suppression. Women must be encouraged and empowered to participate fully in governance, not stifled when they dare to lead,” Atiku said.
Reaffirming his commitment to women’s rights, he urged for greater inclusion and protection of women in leadership, stating that national progress depends on their full participation.
