APC Gears Up for 2027 Elections as Tinubu Leads National Caucus Meeting

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced early preparations for the 2027 elections, with President Bola Tinubu presiding over the party’s National Caucus meeting on Tuesday. This marks the first of such gathering since he assumed office on May 29, 2023.

The high-level meeting, held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, brought together key party leaders ahead of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting scheduled for today at the APC secretariat in Wuse 2, Abuja. The session began at 7:20 p.m. upon President Tinubu’s arrival and was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje. Governors, top party officials, and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) were also present.

Key issues on the agenda included plans for a non-elective convention, the formation of party standing committees, the establishment of The Progressive Institute (TPI), and the implementation of a membership e-registration exercise. Additionally, the meeting reviewed ongoing litigations involving the party.

Meanwhile, former Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai has intensified his criticism of the Tinubu administration. In a recent interview on Arise TV, el-Rufai alleged that President Tinubu—not the Senate—was responsible for blocking his ministerial appointment despite prior negotiations.

Responding to these claims, President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed el-Rufai’s grievances, urging him to move on, stating:

“He cannot continue to behave like a child… crying over spilt milk.”

Amid ongoing political debates, the Nigerian Northern Christian Professors Forum (NNCPF) has cautioned religious, tribal, and socio-cultural groups against making predictions about the 2027 elections. The forum’s president, Prof. Katuka Yaki, stressed the importance of responsible rhetoric to prevent unnecessary tensions and disunity in the country. He also urged religious leaders to refrain from preaching hatred, highlighting Nigeria’s history of religious tensions between Christians and Muslims.

As the APC ramps up its political strategies, party leaders remain focused on addressing internal challenges and public concerns in preparation for the next election cycle.
