The 37-year-old entertainer admitted the offense during a hearing at Southwark Crown Court in July, following allegations that he attacked music producer Abraham Diaw with a bottle at Tape nightclub in London’s upscale Mayfair district.
The incident occurred in February 2023 and was reportedly captured by surveillance cameras inside the crowded nightclub.
Brown initially denied striking Diaw with a bottle, but prosecutors maintained that video evidence documented the confrontation.
As part of an agreement following his guilty plea, prosecutors dropped more serious charges, including assault, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.
The affray charge carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison.
Brown’s friend and vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, also pleaded guilty to affray in connection with the nightclub incident.
Akinlolu is expected to be sentenced alongside the singer.
Following the altercation, Brown left the United Kingdom but was arrested in May 2025 at a hotel in Manchester after arriving in the city for a scheduled concert.
He was subsequently released on bail of £5 million, approximately $6.7 million, allowing him to continue his concert commitments.
The bail arrangement enabled Brown to embark on a tour across Europe and North America during the summer.
He was released on bail again Friday ahead of his scheduled sentencing on October 26.
Brown rose to international fame as a teenager in 2005 and has since established himself as one of the most commercially successful performers in contemporary R&B music.
He won his first Grammy Award for Best R&B Album for F.A.M.E. in 2011 and received another award in the same category in 2025 for 11:11 (Deluxe).
However, his music career has also been accompanied by repeated legal controversies.
In 2009, Brown was convicted of felony assault involving his then-girlfriend, singer Rihanna, following an incident that occurred shortly before the Grammy Awards.
He has subsequently faced arrests in several American states in connection with altercations.
In 2019, French authorities arrested and questioned him in Paris following a rape allegation. He was later released without charge.
Monday’s sentencing will determine the legal consequences of Brown’s guilty plea in the London nightclub case.
Although the more serious charges were withdrawn, the singer still faces a potential custodial sentence under British law.
The court will also determine the sentence for Akinlolu, who admitted his involvement in the altercation.
The hearing marks a significant development in a case that has remained unresolved for more than three years, drawing attention because of Brown’s international celebrity status and previous legal history.
The final outcome will depend on the court’s assessment of the offense and any mitigating circumstances presented during sentencing.
