Professor of Political Economy Pat Utomi has challenged President Bola Tinubu to defend his administration’s record in a live presidential debate ahead of the 2027 general election.

Utomi issued the challenge while commenting on the state of the nation and the need for greater accountability in governance.

“Defend your record in a live presidential debate,” Utomi said.

He argued that Nigerians deserved direct answers from the President on the economy, insecurity and governance rather than relying on statements from government spokespersons.

The political economist said a live debate would give citizens the opportunity to assess the Tinubu administration’s performance and compare its policies and proposals with alternative visions for the country.

Utomi further maintained that any leader seeking re-election should be prepared to submit his record to public scrutiny.
