Manchester United suffered a heavy 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday, while Arsenal moved level on points with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table after a 2-0 victory over Everton.
Goals from Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson secured Bournemouth’s commanding win, exposing United’s defensive weaknesses and leaving them 16th in the league standings, just one point above the relegation zone. Bournemouth climbed to 13th.
Much of the pre-match attention centred on coach Michael Carrick’s decision to leave captain Bruno Fernandes on the bench following his midweek outburst.
Bournemouth took the lead in the 38th minute when Rayan converted a free-kick delivery at the back post.
Leny Yoro’s defensive error then allowed Tavernier to collect a cutback and slot the ball into the net, giving the visitors a two-goal advantage at half-time.
The Cherries continued to threaten after the break and extended their lead in the 71st minute when goalkeeper Senne Lammens misjudged a long ball forward, allowing Evanilson to score into an empty net.
Elsewhere, Liverpool secured their first home league win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Brighton.
Pascal Gross scored an own goal before Alexander Isak found the net for the third consecutive match to seal the win.
Tottenham Hotspur also claimed a 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, recording their first Premier League away win against their London rivals since April 2018.
Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders turned the ball into his own net in the 76th minute before Mathys Tel sealed the victory in the 87th minute.
Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer was also sent off after receiving a second yellow card, leaving the hosts with 10 men.
The victory gave Tottenham a second consecutive league win and lifted them out of the relegation zone.
Newcastle United also defeated Crystal Palace 2-0 at Selhurst Park, with William Osula and Harvey Barnes scoring to secure all three points.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa handed Manchester City their first defeat of the 2026–27 Premier League season with a 2-1 victory at Villa Park.
Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring in the sixth minute before Erling Haaland equalised for City in the 52nd minute. Jackson struck again in the 60th minute to restore Villa’s lead and secure the win.
The result marked Villa’s third consecutive victory over City, further strengthening their record against the visitors.
At the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal defeated Everton 2-0 to move level with Manchester City on 21 points at the top of the table.
Ezri Konsa opened the scoring in the sixth minute with his first-ever goal in an Arsenal shirt, while Gabriel Magalhães added the second in the 68th minute during his 200th appearance for the club.
The victory leaves Arsenal with seven wins and one defeat after eight matches, drawing them level with City in the title race.
