Zelenskyy to Press Trump for More Patriot Missiles at NATO Summit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to urge President Donald Trump to accelerate deliveries of U.S.-made air defense missiles during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara.

Zelenskyy’s priority is expected to be securing additional interceptor missiles for the MIM-104 Patriot air defense system, which Ukrainian officials say remains critical to protecting cities and infrastructure from intensified Russian attacks.

“We need to find a way to get, as quickly as possible, as many missiles for Patriot systems as we can. This is the most important thing,” Zelenskyy said while addressing a defense industry forum during the alliance’s annual summit on Tuesday.

The meeting comes as demand for U.S.-manufactured Patriot PAC-3 interceptor missiles has surged, with stocks being depleted by conflicts in both Ukraine and the Middle East.

Officials say the pace of missile use has significantly exceeded current production capacity, contributing to a growing global shortage of the advanced air defense interceptors.

The shortage has become an increasing concern for Kyiv as Russia intensifies its campaign of missile and drone attacks.

According to Ukrainian officials, Moscow has sought to exploit gaps in Ukraine’s air defenses by launching coordinated barrages of ballistic missiles and large-scale drone attacks designed to overwhelm interception systems.

The sustained strikes have caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure and resulted in mounting civilian casualties across the country.

The Trump-Zelenskyy meeting is expected to focus on Ukraine’s immediate military needs, continued Western security assistance and broader efforts to strengthen the country’s air defense capabilities as the war enters another critical phase.

The discussions are taking place as NATO leaders meet to address collective security challenges, defense spending and continued support for Ukraine amid Russia’s ongoing invasion.
