Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been sentenced to four years in prison after being convicted on multiple criminal charges, including rape.
The 29-year-old was found guilty on two of four rape charges brought against him and acquitted on the remaining two counts. He was also convicted of assault and abuse in close relationships.
In addition to the prison term, the court ordered Høiby to pay compensation to the victims.
Prosecutors accused Høiby of sexually assaulting four women between 2018 and 2024 while they were asleep or otherwise unable to resist. The case formed part of a broader indictment involving approximately 40 criminal charges, including assault, drug-related offenses and violations of a restraining order.
Høiby denied the rape allegations throughout the trial but admitted responsibility for several of the lesser offenses.
Prosecutors had sought a sentence of seven years and seven months, arguing that the evidence supported convictions on all major counts. Defense lawyers, meanwhile, urged the court to acquit Høiby of the rape allegations and impose a sentence of no more than 18 months for the offenses he had acknowledged.
The verdict followed a six-week trial that concluded in March. During proceedings, the court heard testimony from multiple accusers and reviewed evidence that included text messages, photographs and videos obtained from Høiby’s mobile phone.
Høiby was not present in court when the verdict was delivered due to health concerns. Instead, he followed the proceedings via video link from prison.
The ruling is not yet final and may be appealed.
