Edo Governor’s Aide Apologises to Davido Over ‘Ban’

Mr Kassy Chukwu, Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, has apologised to Nigerian music star Davido over his controversial remarks barring the singer from performing in the state.

Chukwu, in a video posted on X on Saturday, also apologised to the people of Edo State, clarifying that his earlier comments were made in his personal capacity and without the knowledge or approval of the governor.

The governor’s aide explained that he made the initial video after taking offence at comments attributed to Davido concerning Governor Okpebholo and his children.

“I didn’t do that video as an appointee of the government, and I didn’t do that video on the instruction or with the permission of the governor of Edo State.

“I did that video in my personal capacity as a son of the governor who was offended by the statement that the governor’s children should be ashamed of their father,” he said.

Chukwu also apologised directly to Okpebholo, acknowledging that his remarks may have embarrassed the governor and the state government.

The controversy began after Chukwu released a video that circulated widely on social media, in which he claimed that Davido had been banned from entering Edo State.

The statement, however, was quickly disowned by the Edo State Government, which clarified that Chukwu had not spoken on behalf of the administration.

In his latest statement, Chukwu expressed regret over the incident and sought to distance the governor and the state government from his earlier remarks.
