President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on the newly-installed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, to use his esteemed position to foster peace, uphold cultural values, and support effective governance.
Represented by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, Tinubu made the remarks during the coronation ceremony of Oba Owoade as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.
The president described the Alaafin’s stool as more than a royal seat, noting it as “a symbol of Yoruba resilience, wisdom, and pride.” He emphasized that the coronation was not just a significant event for the Oyo Kingdom but also a meaningful moment for the entire Yoruba nation and Nigeria.
“Your ascension to this revered throne comes at a critical time in our nation’s history,” Tinubu said. “Nigeria is navigating complex challenges, and traditional institutions like the Alaafin’s stool remain essential in fostering peace, promoting cultural identity, and supporting governance.”
Tinubu expressed confidence in the new monarch’s ability to provide visionary leadership that will unite the Oyo Kingdom and contribute to the progress of Nigeria.
“I urge the people of Oyo to rally behind their new Alaafin, support his vision, and uphold the values of peace, tolerance, and development,” he added.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage, the president stressed the importance of supporting traditional institutions as pillars of national development.
Quoting the late Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, the president reminded the people: “A kingdom thrives when its people are united in purpose.”
