Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio, describing him as unqualified to judge the character of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Frank’s statement on Sunday in Abuja came in response to Akpabio’s recent remarks accusing Fubara of “treachery and betrayal” against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. Akpabio made these comments during a public lecture in Port Harcourt to celebrate Wike’s 57th birthday.
In his statement, Frank accused Akpabio of hypocrisy, stating, “A betrayer cannot label a more decent and responsible man a betrayer. Akpabio and Wike, as political actors, are birds of the same feather, known for their history of betrayal.”
Frank highlighted Akpabio’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC while serving as minority leader in the Senate as evidence of his questionable political loyalty. He also accused Akpabio of turning the 10th Senate into a “rubber stamp” for the executive.
Turning his attention to Wike, Frank criticized his role in the PDP’s losses during the 2023 elections, alleging that his actions as part of the G-5 governors contributed to the party’s failures.
Frank urged Governor Fubara to remain focused on his duties and not be distracted by Akpabio’s accusations, commending Fubara’s recent legal victory restoring monthly allocations to Rivers State.
He concluded by encouraging the public to dismiss Akpabio’s allegations and instead focus on issues that impact the welfare of Rivers State residents.
