Suspended Benue Chief Judge Vows to Stay in Office Amid Political Tensions

Chief Judge Justice Maurice Ikpambese has vowed to remain in office until his tenure ends. Despite his suspension by the Benue State House of Assembly.

Speaking in Tiv at his mother-in-law’s burial over the weekend, Ikpambese dismissed the suspension as politically motivated, attributing it to his refusal to accept a pre-selected list of members for the local government election tribunal.

“I don’t want to speak about this, but my sin is refusing to accept people imposed on me to handle the council election petitions. As Chief Judge, the law gives me the authority to assign cases, and I will not be pressured to compromise that responsibility,” he stated.

He accused the state government of using public resources to orchestrate his removal and vowed to resist any attempts to force him out of office.

However, the Speaker of the House, Aondona Dajoh, condemned Ikpambese’s remarks, describing them as inflammatory and inappropriate for his position.

Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Zamber, Dajoh questioned how the Chief Judge could claim interference when he had yet to make his tribunal selections.

“That means the allegations of partisanship against him are correct then. His statements are now a confirmation,” the Speaker asserted.
