Joshua Audu Gana Responds to Criticisms on Constituency Projects

Joshua Audu Gana, the House of Representatives member representing the Lavun/Mokwa/Edati Federal Constituency in Niger State, has addressed criticisms regarding his performance, particularly his failure to deliver on constituency projects.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Mokwa Local Council on Tuesday, Gana defended his position, emphasizing that he would not engage in corrupt practices to meet public demands. His response came after local party leaders, including Alhaji Suleiman Kupanti, the PDP Chairman in the area, expressed dissatisfaction with his performance.

Gana acknowledged the concerns but clarified that the expectations placed on him were often unrealistic. He explained that public office comes with complex responsibilities and structures, and while he couldn’t meet every demand, he would direct concerns to the appropriate channels.

“I thank God I am not God,” Gana remarked, emphasizing his limitations in fulfilling all the expectations of his constituents. He also stressed that the funds allocated for projects are government resources, not his personal wealth, urging his constituents to base their expectations on the national budget and available funding for their constituency.

In his defense, Gana pointed out that his position in the opposition may limit his access to sufficient project funding, as the ruling APC controls most of the allocation. He compared his current challenges with those faced during the PDP’s tenure, suggesting that the political dynamics have shifted, affecting project funding.

Despite his explanation, some constituents expressed frustration, demanding more tangible results. However, Gana’s supporters pledged to learn from the situation and reassess his leadership as they move forward.
