IGP Summons Emir Sanusi Over Fatal Stabbing of Palace Guard

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has summoned the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for questioning over the death of one of his palace guards.

The fatal incident occurred on March 30, 2025, during the Eid celebration at the Kofar Mata Eid Ground. The palace guard was reportedly stabbed to death amid the crowd, while several others sustained injuries. The attack disrupted the festivities and caused panic among worshippers.

A formal invitation, signed by Commissioner of Police Olajide Ibitoye on behalf of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID), directed Emir Sanusi to appear before the FID on April 8, 2025.

It reads:

“I have the directives of the Inspector General of Police, through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department, to invite you for an investigative meeting regarding an incident that occurred during the Sallah celebration within your domain. You are hereby invited to the Force Intelligence Department, opposite Police Force Headquarters, Area 11, Abuja.”

The Kano State Police Command had earlier confirmed the arrest of a 20-year-old suspect linked to the stabbing. According to the police, the incident occurred as security personnel were escorting the Emir after the Eid prayers.

Police spokesperson SP Abdullahi Kiyawa also disclosed that senior palace official Wada Isyaku, the Shamakin Kano, has been invited for questioning as part of ongoing investigations into the attack.
