Former Governor of Jigawa State and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of misrepresenting Nigeria’s economic realities. Speaking on the BBC Hausa program Gane Mini Hanya, Lamido also criticized former President Muhammadu Buhari for what he described as a lack of transparency during his administration.
Lamido alleged that both the Tinubu and Buhari administrations relied on propaganda rather than tackling the nation’s pressing challenges. “With the coming of Buhari, deception and propaganda became tools for running the government,” he remarked.
He raised concerns about the current administration’s fiscal policies, questioning the logic behind its borrowing practices despite claims of surplus revenue. “If Nigerians are being told the truth, then there is nothing wrong with that. But how would you budget N30 trillion, generate N50 trillion, and then request loans when you have a surplus of N20 trillion?” Lamido queried, referencing the 2023 budget.
Describing the administration’s actions as “reckless and self-serving,” Lamido said, “This recklessness and clear-cut selfishness is not done anywhere in the world, but yet you find some Nigerians supporting it.”
The former governor also highlighted criticism of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on social media, where it is often labeled as a “calamity.” He lamented the continued support the party enjoys despite widespread discontent.
Lamido’s comments add to the growing political debate over the country’s economic direction and governance under the APC administration.
