The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Solomon Adeola, has given suspended party member Abayomi Hunye and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Folake Marcus-Bello 24 hours to provide evidence for their claim that he is an indigene of Ekiti State.

Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate, is the APC’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election. His Ogun ancestry has recently come under attack from political opponents.

In separate interviews with Channels Television in August and September, Hunye and Marcus-Bello alleged that Adeola is originally from Ekiti State.

Marcus-Bello urged the Yewa people to back a “genuine son or daughter” of the area, alleging that Adeola’s father was buried in Ekiti while his mother was buried in Epe, Lagos State.

Adeola, through his media adviser, Kayode Odunaro, dismissed the claims as false and defamatory, threatening legal action against those making them.

“I watched in utter disbelief as these characters that I hardly know utter assertive and outrageous lies about my origin without any proof,” the statement reads.

“One falsely claimed on TV that I am from Ekiti, and when asked where exactly in Ekiti went moronically blanked and could not provide an answer.

“The other one was lying about the locations of the graves of my parents as if she was part of the undertakers at the burial, all in a futile effort to justify an unsustainable falsehood.

“Enough is enough. They should produce their evidence in 24 hours or be ready for my lawsuits.”

Adeola said similar allegations were made during his campaign for the Ogun West senatorial seat but did not prevent him from winning the 2023 election.

He maintained that the renewed claims were aimed at damaging his chances ahead of the 2027 Ogun governorship election.
