The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has pledged not to disappoint Nigerians if elected president, saying he is committed to rebuilding the country regardless of the challenges.
Makinde, who is also the Oyo State governor, made the pledge on Wednesday during the unveiling of the party’s Reset Nigeria manifesto in Abuja.
He said the manifesto was developed from consultations and town hall meetings held across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones to understand citizens’ expectations and their vision for the country.
Makinde recalled that during one of the consultations in the North-East, a participant asked whether he could become a leader like the country’s founding fathers, including Tafawa Balewa, Obafemi Awolowo and Nnamdi Azikiwe.
He said the question and the passion behind it reinforced his determination to offer Nigerians the leadership they deserve.
Makinde said: “At that moment, listening to the passion with which the question was asked and the expectation, I felt that no matter what it will take we must not disappoint Nigerians.
“It seems as if we are running a relay race, our founding fathers started the race just like the vice presidential candidate mentioned but somewhere along the line, somebody within the first lap will give them the baton but I think that we dropped the baton somewhere along the line. So we now need to return to rebuild the Nigeria that our founding fathers envisioned.”
