The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has warned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other aggrieved members against actions capable of disrupting the party’s national convention scheduled for November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its 7th meeting on Saturday, August 23, 2025, in Gusau, Zamfara State, the forum reaffirmed its commitment to the resolutions of the 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in July, stressing that preparations for the convention remain on course.
“The Forum reaffirms its full commitment to the resolutions of the 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of July 2025 regarding the November 15 National Convention. It urges members to resist all attempts to derail the convention by anti-party forces, and to see the PDP as the only democratic institution and viable alternative for restoring Nigeria along the path of good governance and national development,” the communiqué read in part.
Chaired by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, the forum deliberated on insecurity, erosion of democratic values, and the forthcoming convention. The governors praised the resilience of party members in resisting orchestrated defections, insisting that such distractions cannot erode the PDP’s grassroots strength or the public’s longing for affordable living and relative security as experienced under previous PDP administrations.
The forum also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of divisive governance and policies that continue to worsen economic hardship, vowing that the PDP remains determined to “rescue the country.”
However, Wike, in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, expressed dissatisfaction with the South-South Caretaker Committee constituted by the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) and the continued tenure of Ali Odefa as National Vice Chairman (South East).
He insisted that his ally, Dan Orbih, who emerged from a parallel congress in Calabar, remains the authentic National Vice Chairman (South-South).
“Our congress was held in Calabar, and there’s nothing anybody can tell us. If they want another round of crisis, so be it. Chief Dan Orbih is the National Vice Chairman of PDP South-South. If they don’t agree, that’s another crisis,” Wike said.
The FCT minister has also rejected the zoning committee led by Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri. His once-strong alliance with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, a fellow G5 member, has since collapsed, with many PDP leaders accusing him of anti-party activities allegations he has repeatedly denied.
