₦1.3bn PFIPC Controversy: Adeyemi Demands Independent Probe

Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to establish an independent multi-stakeholder panel to investigate the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) and the disputed ₦1.3 billion budget allocation linked to the body.

In an open letter dated July 13, Adeyemi commended the President for directing the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the matter but argued that an ICPC-led probe alone would not guarantee transparency or inspire public confidence.

Accused of presenting himself as the Director-General of the controversial PFIPC, Adeyemi said an independent panel made up of representatives from relevant institutions and civil society would ensure a fair and credible investigation.

“I write to you not as a fugitive evading accountability, but as a Nigerian citizen who maintains an unwavering belief in equity, justice and the rule of law,” he said.

He described Tinubu’s directive to the ICPC as “a vital first step” but argued that the current arrangement poses “severe structural challenges” to an impartial investigation.

Adeyemi also claimed that surrendering himself under the present circumstances could endanger his life, alleging he had received credible intelligence about threats to his safety if taken into custody without independent oversight.

The controversy centres on the alleged creation of the PFIPC, which authorities have described as a fictitious body, and the inclusion of a ₦1.3 billion allocation for it in the 2026 Appropriation Bill. The matter is currently being investigated by the police and anti-corruption agencies over allegations including forgery, impersonation and related offences.

Speaking separately on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Adeyemi insisted he had no confidence in the ongoing ICPC investigation, arguing that it could not independently examine the role of senior government officials.

“Government can’t probe Government. Are you telling me that the ICPC would indict Chief Femi Gbajabiamila? It’s not possible.

“I thank our father, Mr President, for listening by setting up a panel, but what we need is an independent panel. The Presidency already exonerated Gbajabiamila,” he said.
