YAYI Clinches APC Gubernatorial Ticket in Ogun With Landslide Victory

Solomon Adeola, popularly known as YAYI, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State following a decisive win in the party’s primary election ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The result was officially announced on Thursday at the APC Secretariat in Abeokuta by the Chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee, Wale Ohu.

According to the declaration, Adeola polled 304,055 votes to defeat his sole opponent, Abayomi Hunye, who reportedly scored zero votes.

Officials disclosed that out of 343,292 registered voters, 305,287 were accredited for the exercise. Adeola, however, secured an overwhelming majority of votes across all 20 local government areas of the state.

Announcing the outcome, Ohu confirmed that the contest involved only two aspirants, adding that Adeola recorded victories in all local councils across Ogun State.

In his acceptance speech, Adeola pledged to build on the achievements of Governor Dapo Abiodun, promising continuity, unity, and sustained development if elected in 2027.

He also commended the governor for what he described as the smooth and peaceful conduct of the primary election, describing it as unprecedented in the state’s political history.

Adeola expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as a mentor and political father who has played a significant role in shaping his political career.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, in his remarks, congratulated Adeola on his emergence, noting that it reflected the confidence and widespread support he enjoys within the party.

He further stated that the peaceful conduct of the primaries marked a major milestone in Ogun State’s internal democracy and political development.

The APC primary is part of early political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general elections, as alignments continue within the ruling party in Ogun State.
