President Bola Tinubu has directed the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to initiate a nationwide educational campaign highlighting the dangers of scooping fuel from fallen tankers and the environmental risks associated with such activities.
This directive comes in response to the tragic fuel tanker explosion at Dikko Junction in Gurara Local Government Area, Niger State, which claimed over 80 lives and left many injured on Saturday.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Niger State.
“The President has instructed the provision of comprehensive medical care to the injured and tasked security and road safety agencies with implementing measures to prevent similar tragedies,” the statement read.
President Tinubu urged citizens to exercise extreme caution and avoid accident scenes involving fuel-laden vehicles, citing their highly explosive nature.
The NOA’s campaign will focus on educating the public about the severe risks and environmental consequences of scooping fuel from tanker accidents, emphasizing the importance of safety and prevention.
