The Supreme Court has annulled the Court of Appeal’s ruling that recognized Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).
In a unanimous decision delivered on Friday, a five-member panel of the apex court determined that the Court of Appeal lacked the jurisdiction to declare Abure as the party’s chairman, noting that the case revolved around the leadership of the party—an internal matter beyond the scope of judicial authority.
The court further observed that Abure’s tenure had already expired. It upheld the appeal filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and another party member, deeming it meritorious.
The Supreme Court also dismissed the cross-appeal from the Abure faction of the LP, ruling it without merit.
