The Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has dismissed reports claiming the revered monarch endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by Prince Bashir Adefaka, the team described the reports as false, stressing that the Sultan had not urged Nigerians to support any presidential candidate.

According to the statement, the Sultan’s position as both a traditional and religious leader requires him to remain neutral and serve as a father figure to all Nigerians, regardless of political affiliation.

“Our simple response to the report is that it is not possible for the Sultan, as the father of all, to make such a statement, either publicly or in any other forum,” the statement said.

The media team urged the public to disregard any report attempting to associate the Sultan with the political campaign or candidacy of any individual.

It reiterated that the institutions of monarchy and religion led by the Sultan are founded on impartiality, with the monarch offering guidance, blessings and counsel to political leaders across party lines.

“His Eminence cannot but remain within the purview of that role by offering fatherly, royal and spiritual blessings, as well as guidance, to Nigerian politicians who seek his counsel and blessings,” the statement added.

The team further noted that the Sultan’s palace remains open to Nigerians from all political backgrounds, emphasising that he does not discriminate based on political affiliation.

It also reaffirmed the Sultan’s commitment to promoting peace, national unity, stability and peaceful coexistence across the country.

The statement concluded by urging journalists and social media users to verify information before publication, particularly reports capable of dragging traditional and religious institutions into partisan political activities.
