The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has donated ₦100 million and a brand-new Hilux vehicle to the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community security outfit established by Yoruba Nation advocate, Sunday Adeyemo.

The donation was announced on Tuesday when Sunday Igboho and members of the security network paid a courtesy visit to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife.

According to a statement from the palace, the monarch described the Iru Ekun Security Network as a timely initiative designed to complement existing security efforts aimed at safeguarding lives and property across Yorubaland.

The Ooni commended Sunday Igboho for what he described as his courage, resilience and dedication to the welfare and security of the Yoruba people, noting that true leadership is measured by selfless service and meaningful contributions to society.

He said every son and daughter of Oduduwa has a responsibility to promote peace, unity and development in Yorubaland, stressing that lasting progress can only be achieved in a secure environment.

The monarch explained that the cash donation and vehicle were provided as part of his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, strengthen community harmony and enhance the protection of Yoruba communities.

He also called on traditional rulers, community leaders, business executives, professionals and other prominent Yoruba sons and daughters across the world to support the Iru Ekun Security Network.

Describing Sunday Igboho as a courageous patriot, the Ooni said history would remember those who stood up to defend their people during challenging times.

Responding, Sunday Igboho thanked the monarch for the financial support and royal encouragement, describing the Ooni as a symbol of unity whose leadership continues to inspire Yoruba people around the world.

He said the visit also provided an opportunity to brief the monarch on the activities of the Iru Ekun Security Network and seek his continued guidance and blessings.

Igboho further disclosed plans to convene a security summit involving traditional rulers from across Yorubaland to discuss practical solutions to the region’s security challenges.

According to him, the proposed summit, subject to the Ooni’s approval, is expected to hold at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife. He reaffirmed that the Iru Ekun Security Network remains committed to operating within the law and collaborating with relevant authorities and local communities to strengthen intelligence gathering and community policing.
