Reps Summon Naira Marley Over Late Singer Mohbad Royalties

The House of Representatives on Thursday summoned Azeez Fashola (Naira Marley) to appear before them over the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba (Mohbad), who passed away recently under questionable circumstances and is to receive fair compensation and royalties.
The manager of the late singer Jiggy Adeoye was also extended an invitation by the House to participate in an interactive session on Tuesday through its Committee on Justice, Youth, and Legislative Compliance.
On September 12, Mohbad, a 27-year-old former Naira Marley record label signee, passed away.
After a resolution made by Babajimi Benson (APC, Lagos) was adopted, the House decided to investigate the matter.
Benson had voiced his worries about the contracts and agreements that entertainers are forced to sign and had called for a reassessment of the rules that govern the entertainment industry as well as copyright regulations.
The House stated in a letter dated October 26 and signed by Yusuf Ibrahim, the committee’s clerk, that Naira Marley and Mohbad’s manager were required to guide the committee on future legislative action.
The letter was routed through the President of Performing Musicians Associations of Nigeria.
