National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s resolve to end the recurring attacks and killings in Plateau State, following deadly incidents in Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA) that resulted in over 50 deaths and the destruction of more than 300 homes in one week. The attacks, reportedly carried out by suspected herdsmen, have left five communities devastated.
During his operational visit to the headquarters of Operation Safe Haven in Jos, Ribadu assured community leaders and security personnel of the government’s commitment to finding lasting solutions to the crisis and restoring peace to the region.
Plateau State’s Secretary to the Government, Samuel Jatau, also visited affected communities, assessing the damage and providing relief materials to victims. Amid widespread grief, Yohanna Michael from Hurti community shared that over 30 victims had been buried in a mass grave, with search efforts ongoing for missing persons.
The District Head of Manguna urged the government to deploy additional security forces to curb rural-urban migration triggered by insecurity.
Reports indicate that more than 700 people have been displaced, many of whom are farmers unable to return to their livelihoods without improved security and government intervention.
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) condemned the attacks, calling for immediate action to stop the killings and restore peace in the region. The Forum’s spokesperson, Tukur Muhammad-Baba, stressed the urgent need for government action to prevent further bloodshed and address the economic challenges faced by the affected communities.
